Southeast Tennessee Whiskey-Making traces back to Europe where production and consumption of whiskey was a tradition. European immigrants who settled into Southern Appalachia began using locally grown and produced ingredients for the making of whiskey for personal use and to sell. This area of Tennessee is well known for some legendary moonshiners who are considered part of the history of the State. And, some of those distillers used Starr Mountain to hide their operations.
Located in the shadow of Starr Mountain, our distillery honors the history of those who came before us by making quality spirits at our facility, located in Etowah, Tennessee. Our distillers have many years of experience in finding the right ingredients to ferment and distill into high quality spirits. While honoring the history of our area, we want everyone to know the pleasure of drinking Tennessee-Made Whiskey and other spirits. Davey Ingram and John Bohannon had originally invested in a start-up distillery in Etowah, Tennessee which failed, but, they both felt the distillery idea was a good one. In 2018 they formed a partnership known as B and I Enterprises and began to plan a distillery in a 100 year old building in Etowah that they jointly own. In 2019 and into 2020 they purchased a hand built still system, began refurbishing the building and brought on a master distiller who was also a construction contractor and a Navy Veteran. Davey’s son Chris Ingram was also brought on to help form the business and to also make the alcohol base that is used in our line of spirits. Chris’s artistic talents have proven to be very beneficial to Starr Mountain Distillery.
